What you should know about pressed amber

The term "Reconstructed Baltic Amber" was created and defined by the International Amber Association, Gdansk, Poland. Other synonyms of this concept are "pressed amber" and "molded amber". And it is defined as follows: Reconstructed (pressed) Baltic amber (succinite) is a precious stone made of pieces of Baltic amber pressed at high temperature and under high pressure without additional components.

Pressed, or as you can often hear, molded, amber is pieces of amber of various fractions (sizes) that are placed in a container where, under the influence of high temperature and without air access, they begin to melt (amber begins to melt at a temperature of 287 ° C). These containers have pre-prepared shapes (for example, a ball, an olive, a cube, etc.) and after the melting process, the amber takes the shape of the container in which it was placed.

What you need to know about pressed amber:
  • Pressing does NOT change the natural properties of amber. It only changes the shape of the natural layers inside amber. Does not change its medicinal properties.
  • Pressed amber beads can be very beautiful.
  • And they are often more durable than beads carved from solid stone.
  • The only way to distinguish pressed beads from hand-cut ones is a visual inspection by an amber expert.
  • Pressed amber is not inferior in quality to whole amber, smells when rubbed, floats in salt water.

Pressed amber is still natural amber, and has all the same qualities. In our production, no additional substances are added during pressing, such as glue, epoxy resin, glass or plastic. Pressed (molded) amber is no worse than a fossil. Small fractions of stone are pressed, from which it will not be possible to make smooth balls or beautiful products.

Thanks to this technology, we can get completely new shades of stone in jewelry. Beads, bracelets and rosaries and massagers are made from pressed amber (which are lower in price, although the quality is no worse), in this way we even make accessories for rings. Molded amber expands the possibilities of making various exclusive jewelry and amber products.

The advantage of pressed amber over natural amber is that the first one can be obtained in various colors and structures if various dyes are added during the pressing process. Beads, bracelets, pendants, earrings, inserts in rings, chess and chess boards, figures of birds, animals, as well as unique products - caskets, vases, various mosaics are made from it.

Amber, like mica and porcelain, is a dielectric, i.e. it does not conduct an electric current. Therefore, about 10% of pressed amber is used in industry as a material for the manufacture of insulators in electrical and radio engineering, instrumentation. The chemical inertia of amber allows it to be used for the manufacture of medical instruments and durable utensils for storing active acids, devices and instruments for blood transfusion, as well as vessels for its preservation.

Amber is a material of huge, not yet fully known possibilities. His inner world is rich and beautiful. And the jewelry made of it is incredibly beautiful and unique.
